Back in the Saddle Again
Thursdays, from September 17 to December 17
This program is designed for former riders who wish to ‘get back in the saddle’. Designed to be a fun, social gathering of those who are limited in flexibility or confidence, these sessions will provide you with the horse and peer support to take up the sport again. The program runs in the REACH arena from 10:00 am to 12:00 p.m. The drop in fee is $25, (based on availability, so call ahead) which includes access to a horse and tack, supervision while tacking up, riding and un-tacking and a social time with refreshments afterwards.

Competitive Trail Clinic with Lindsay Grice

Limited to 5 riders for the novice competitive trail session, and 5 riders for the experienced trail rider session, this day long clinic will provide the necessary information in lectures, observing and riding sessions to excel in Competitive Trail Riding. As a bonus, the final riding session of the day will be the art of neck reining.

Equine Reproduction
Saturday & Sunday, November 7 & 8
This two-day course is for those who wish to learn how to prepare mares for breeding, select a stallion and perform proper AI techniques. Hands-on experience using the REACH stallion and mares is provided in a safe, quiet, supervised environment. In addition to learning about equine reproductive anatomy, nutrition, health management and environment of the mare in preparation for breeding will be investigated. The stages of gestation, right up to and beyond foaling are discussed. This course is designed for anyone wishing to use artificial insemination in
their breeding program now or in the future, and those wishing to update their knowledge and skills in breeding practices. The fee includes all course materials, instruction, course notes, refreshments and lunch each day.

Introduction to Equine Massage - Relaxation Techniques
Saturday & Sunday, November 21, 22
The first course in a series on Equine Massage, this course provide hands-on and theory instruction in how to obtain relaxation in your horse, whether is it an older horse, horse in training or a performance horse. Instructor Sharon McMaster is a qualified equine massage therapist. Participants will not be able to bring their own horses, for the safety of all participants and horses. The REACH horses will be used for this clinic.
Cost: $200 plus GST, includes course materials, instruction in the classroom and in the REACH barn, lunch and breaks.
Participants will need to obtain the book “Horse Anatomy: A Coloring Atlas” by Robert A. Kainer, DVM” and bring it with them.

Dr. Temple Grandin

REACH is pleased to present a talk by world-renowned animal behaviourist Dr. Temple Grandin of Colorado State University. Dr. Grandin has overcome her own autism to become a world authority on livestock handling systems and equine behaviour. Dr. Grandin’s books will also be available for purchase at this event for signing.
