Sunrise Therapeutic Riding & Learning Centre’s Hoofbeat Challenge is an annual charity fundraiser to support our therapeutic riding programs, day camps and life skills initiatives, for children and adults with special needs. This event includes a pledged ride / dog walk / hike and takes place at the Sunrise farm on the last Saturday in September each year – this year’s date is Saturday, September 29th, 2018.
Sunrise is a registered Canadian charity and has served Guelph/Cambridge/Kitchener and Wellington County since 1982, offering therapy and recreation opportunities to hundreds of children with special needs each year. Sunrise is also an accredited member of the Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association (CanTRA) and the Ontario Camps Association (OCA). Since 1993, we have provided inclusive summer day camp programs, serving over 280 children and youth each summer.
Riding provides a wide range of physical, cognitive and psychological benefits for participants. The human-animal bond is a powerful motivator, empowering riders to reach new levels of independence and achieve their therapy goals. For those with physical disabilities, riding is one of the few activities that provides complete freedom of movement (leaving wheelchair or walker behind). For all participants, the sense of achievement and acceptance experienced at Sunrise helps to build self-esteem and confidence.
Whether you choose to sponsor our event, provide a door prize or make a monetary gift to Sunrise, you will be helping us to reach our event goal of $25,000 this year. Many children will benefit from your involvement as a “ Friend of Sunrise” .
