"We look forward to the resumption of live racing across Ontario"

TORONTO, June 7, 2021 – With today’s Government of Ontario announcement that the province will commence Step One of the ‘Roadmap to Reopen’ earlier than originally anticipated, live racing will resume in Ontario on Friday, June 11.

\Woodbine Mohawk Park will return with live racing this Friday, June 11, at 7:00 p.m., as will Grand River Raceway, accompanied by a 6:30 p.m. post time. More of the province’s racetracks will resume live racing starting this weekend and early next week. Live racing at all racetracks will operate without any spectators due to government restrictions.

“The past 14 months have been extremely difficult for the horse racing industry and the thousands of hardworking and dedicated people whose livelihood depends on live racing,” said John Hayes, Independent Chair, Ontario Racing. “We would like to acknowledge the Ontario Government for its recognition of the major contributions horse racing has had and continues to have on the local and provincial economies. We would also like to extend our appreciation to Premier Doug Ford for his attentiveness to the horse racing industry and understanding of how our horsepeople have been greatly impacted by COVID-19.

"We look forward to the resumption of live racing across Ontario, and to see some of the world’s top horses and horsepeople competing at racetracks all over the province. The Ontario Racing team wishes all participants great success and racing luck throughout 2021 and beyond.”

Racing schedules for Ontario racetracks will be updated and posted on ontarioracing.com in the coming days. Fans can also consult with their local racetrack’s website and social media channels for the latest racing dates, announcements in relation to attendance, and other important information.

What Our Clients Think

  • Horses are more secure and comfortable when trailering if they can face the rear, but they prefer openings.
