AJAX DOWNS, AUGUST 7, 2024 - Robert Bailey's CINDY LOO WHO toppled a strong pairing from owner John Wilson and trainer Scott Reid to win the 10th running of the Princess Derby for 3-year-old Quarter Horse fillies at Ajax Downs on August 7.  One of the longshots in the field at 7 to 1, Cindy Lou Who and jockey JB Botello had a sharp start from position one and quickly had a short lead over five rivals including heavily favoured Rbybybaby, who had won one of the two Trials for the Princess Derby along with stablemate Expediant.

Cindy Loo Who kept her rivals at bay right to the finish of the 350-yard stakes race, holding Rbybybaby and jockey Carly Furlonger in second by a neck with 11 to 1 shot TCb Stormy Episode three-quarters of a length back in third. Lady Alice finished fourth and Expediant, also owned by Wilson, landed fifth.
The time for the race on a breezy, warm afternoon was a sharp 17.852 for a 93 speed index.

Trained by Jason Pascoe, Cindy Loo Who was purchased by Bailey from the 2023 Heritage Place Mixed sale in Oklahoma City, OK for $4,500 (US) as a maiden after three races. The New Mexico bred by Bodacious Dash won two of her first three races at Ajax Downs this spring and was second by a neck to Rbybybaby in the QROOI Derby. Cindy Loo Who entered the Princess Derby off a third-place finish to the latter in one of the Derby Trials.

"She just broke so good today," said Botello. "She was always in front. I saw the number six [Rbybybaby] coming and it ended up being close."

Bailey, who is from Oakwood, ON, said his filly had some bad luck in recent races, "There was the one rainy day when she had a slow start and in the Trial, she also didn't break that well. Today she started better and she was gone."

Cindy Loo Who has career totals of three wins from nine career races and earnings of over $38,000. She paid $16.10 to win and keyed a $1 superfecta payoff of over $275.00.
