Jockey Race is close; Ajax Downs July 30.

AJAX DOWNS, JULY 29, 2025 - Ontario Quarter Horse racing has reached the midway point of its 2025 meeting at AJAX DOWNS, and there are eight races lined up for this Wednesday, July 30, with a 1:45 p.m. post time.

After 12 race dates, the jockey race for most wins is heated with ISMAEL MOSQUERIA leading with 18 victories and BRIAN BELL close by with 17 wins. Tony Phillips is third with 11.  JASON PASCOE leads all trainers with 20 wins over BRYN ROBERTSON, who has 12, and JAMES BOGAR with 11.

On the leading owners list, CAROL and JAIME ROBERTSON have won 12 races and MILENA KWIECIEN has 10 wins.

Wednesday's featured race 4 kicks off the popular PICK 5 wager with a base bet of just 20 cents. The 330-yard allowance race is for Ontario-bred 3-year-olds and upward and the exciting LAST COLD BUD is seeking his third win of the season. The son of successful Ontario stallion Cold Hard Dash is a half-brother to 2010 Horse of the Year One Kool Wave and the bay speedster has blossomed in 2025.

Owned and bred by Belinda Taggart, Last Cold Bud's most recent win, on July 9, was very impressive as the bay speedster stumbled at the start but still was up to win under jockey Christian Benitez. Last Cold Bud is trained by Scott Reid.

Last Cold Bud's main competition could come from SWEET KARA, named for Ajax Downs' head of racetrack administration and events, Kara Ferguson. Sweet Kara, one of five winners for her Ontario sire Caviar and Corona this year, posted her best career speed index of 91 in her most recent start, when third in a tough speed index race. Owned by Picov Cattle Company, Sweet Kara is trained by Jason Pascoe.
