Her latest episode of “Horse Tales with Cat” features Michel Vaillancourt
Ontario is home to a cool horsey podcast called “Horse Tales with Cat” created and hosted by Catherine Shearon. It is now available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and YouTube as well as the host site Buzzsprout.
Catherine Shearon has been an amateur jumper rider for more than 38 years and trained with both Jill Henselwood and Ian Millar. She, like many amateur riders, juggled a few jobs in order to afford her sport.
“Horse Tales with Cat” started 2 years ago as a passion product “out of my own curiosity to hear the stories of riders and professionals in the sport, beyond what you hear in a superficial interview” said Catherine.
The podcast has evolved into a dialogue that connects listeners to a broader community, allowing them to hear how top professionals, trainers and athletes manage to cope with the challenges and setbacks that they face within the industry.
It is hoped that the stories shared will inspire others to forge on when the path seems difficult.
It is also hoped that listeners will learn some key details that may shift things for them in their own approach to the sport.
The podcast is listened to in more than 22 countries with 70% of the listeners from North America (almost equally split between Canada and the United States) and 30% from Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Her latest episode of “Horse Tales with Cat” features Michel Vaillancourt. This month marks the 50th anniversary of Michel Vaillancourt and his horse, Branch County, winning the individual silver medal in show jumping at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal (although the event actually happened in Bromont).
Their story plays out like a movie. They were an unlikely pair to have qualified and the fact that they secured a medal makes it all the more remarkable.
