All in the Same Class, Winning the FEI CSI2* Speed Class at International Bromont Week Two.

BROMONT, QC - August 3, 2023  - As anyone who spends time with horses will tell you, they keep you humble. You can be winning one minute and in the dirt the next… which is exactly what happened to American Kama Godek Thursday afternoon in the FEI CSI2* Speed class presented by Soltek Equestrian at the International Bromont week 2, at the Bromont Olympic Equestrian Park.

Godek topped the leaderboard riding Lady Stakkata, executing the course with her nimble little mare in a very efficient time of 61.912 seconds, well ahead of second placed Francois Lamontagne (CAN) and Thunderbird VH Sheefkasteel Z (65.603) and third placed Maude Filiatrault (CAN) with Zambia Z (68.928).

However on second attempt, riding Conny 409, Godek was unable to match the effort Conny made at the second part of the ATP combination, gently rolling over the front of the saddle and landing in the dirt. Thankfully unharmed, both exited the ring under their own power with nothing more bruised than perhaps a little pride.

“That’s horses for you!” Laughed Godek post ride. “I won with one and ended up on the ground with the other… [Conny 409] jumped me right out of the tack!”

Of her round on Lady Stakkata to win the class, Godek mentioned what a great attitude the talented mare brings to the ring every time: “She’s just a fast horse. I don’t have to think anything about speed with her, I just have to navigate the course.

There was an inside turn I didn’t take, I went around and just kept her tempo the same. I just keep her in the tempo she feels comfortable in and I don’t try to change much. She’s always looking for the next jump so as long as I’m in the range — if I’m coming through the turn she’s pulling me to the jump.”

Thursday’s speed class opened the FEI CSI2* division for week two of competition at the Bromont Olympic Equestrian Park. Plenty of action will run on-site each day through Sunday with highlights including:

What Our Clients Think

  • Horses are more secure and comfortable when trailering if they can face the rear, but they prefer openings.
