Mounted Games: Fun for Riders of All Ages and Abilities!

Submitted by Karen Foell & Jessie-lyn Boadway

It is time to learn of the opportunities within Mounted Games and join in on the fun this discipline has to offer.  Mounted Games are a series of relay races where riders compete as teams, pairs or individuals. Races involve many skills that require horse and rider agility, horsemanship, sportsmanship, teamwork and strategy. These aspects captivate audiences making Mounted Games an exciting spectator sport as well. This discipline is offered in over 25 countries. Here in Canada, Mounted Games are offered by Equine Mounted Games Canada (EMGC).

Mounted Games include over 30 relay races. Each relay race requiring a certain set of skills, strategy, and equipment. Races include equipment such as pylons, bins, bending poles, flags, mugs, etc. All of which can be home made. Unlike speed event disciplines, Mounted Games are not timed. Instead, a team’s goal is to complete the relay the quickest, without any mistakes. It’s not about racing against the clock, but instead racing other teams by working together and showcasing your skillset. Mounted Games mounts are of all breeds and all backgrounds. Within EMGC we encourage mounts of any height and riders of all disciplines to join in on the fun.

EMGC offers various divisions to cater to horse and rider skill level. What Our Clients Think

  • Horses are more secure and comfortable when trailering if they can face the rear, but they prefer openings.
