AJAX DOWNS, JUNE 3, 2025 - Two Trials for the $30,000 Unclassified Stakes headline the Wednesday, June 4 Quarter Horse card of racing at Ajax Downs. Summer-like weather is expected and the seven-race card gets underway at 1:45 p.m.
The Unclassified Stakes, inaugurated in 2023, was created by the Quarter Racing Owners of Ontario for horses who are just below the top-level stakes horses. It is for horses who, at the time of nomination, had not posted a speed index of better than 79.

SW THE LION KING, who was 13 to 1 when he upset a maiden race on May 21, will be considerably lower odds when he takes on four rivals in the first 330-yard Trial, which is race 2 on the card. Owned by Tim Wettlaufer and trained by Jason Pascoe, SW The Lion King was making his third career start when he led from start to finish in his maiden victory. An Oklahoma bred by SW The Game Changer from the multiple winning Ajax Downs racemare Rockin Miss Kitty, SW The Lion King posted a 75 speed index for his victory. JB Botello will ride the 3-year-old from post 2.
George Coleman's RUNAWEY PERRY, with Ramiro Castillo on board, is also coming off a victory, his second win of his career. An Ontario-bred by Sugarman Perry, Runawey Perry is trained by Bob Broadstock.
The second Trial for the Unclassified Stakes, race 3, is led by two-time winner CG MEGA SPY, a Quebec-bred for Caroline Girard. A son of Ontario stallion Spy for the Senate, CG Megas Spy, was a winner on May 21 with a 71 speed index. JB Botello is named. His main rival figures to be Jennifer Zurowski's RR ILLBEURHUCKLEBERY, who was an easy winner of his maiden race a week ago, May 28, for trainer Joe Tavares. Brian Bell, who is four wins away from a monumental mark of 800 victories, is his regular rider.
