Temperatures will be below normal in southeastern Ontario through Canada’s midsection from northern Newfoundland and Labrador westward across central Canada through the northern Prairies into central and northern B.C. The rest of the country will experience above-normal temperatures throughout the season, but remember: While it won’t be as cold, it’s still winter!
A wet winter for about half the country. Those living in or visiting Atlantic Canada, from the western Prairies through southern B.C., and across southern Nunavut, should keep umbrellas or snow shovels handy!
Snowfall will be heavier in most places where precipitation is predicted to be above normal, including Atlantic Canada, from the northwestern Prairies through B.C., and southern Nunavut. While precipitation is expected to be below normal in southern Quebec and southern Ontario, snowfall will be near to above normal.
The Almanac’s meteorologists are also watching several natural phenomena that could impact this winter’s forecast. These include surface temperatures in the Indian Ocean, which could strengthen the Pacific jet stream and lead to an increase in storms in parts of the country.
