The $125,000 Henry Equestrian Canadian Show Jumping Championship was held over two phases on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Toronto, Ontario – Kyle Timm of Calgary, AB, made his Royal Horse Show debut one to remember by winning the 2025 Canadian Show Jumping Champion title on Saturday, November 8, at the Royal Horse Show, held as part of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto, ON.

The $125,000 Henry Equestrian Canadian Show Jumping Championship was held over two phases on Friday and Saturday evenings.  Following Friday’s speed test, riders returned on Saturday in reverse order of standing to tackle the two-round finale.  The top six from the opening round advanced to an all-deciding jump-off set by course designer Olaf Petersen, Jr. of Germany in front of a sold-out Coca Cola Coliseum.

Following a clear round on opening night of the Royal Horse Show, Timm sat in sixth position riding Atomica des Sequoias Z, owned by the Rein Family. Proving that consistency is a winning formula, Timm and the 11-year-old Zangersheide mare (Arezzo VDL x Saccor) posted two more fault-free rounds to take the coveted title on a time of 42.32 seconds in the final round.

“I was already excited to arrive here and jump this championship. I’ve heard so much about The Royal but I’ve never been here,” said Timm, 39, who grew up competing in western Canada.  “This might only happen one time in someone’s life, so I’m very happy for it to be me today.”

Originally hailing from Calgary, AB, Timm is now based in France and was grateful for the support he received from the Canadian crowd.  Record numbers turned out for the Canadian Show Jumping Championship as the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair celebrates 103 years of show jumping in the heart of Toronto.

“The crowd was fantastic tonight, and this show has a special ambience,” said Timm, who had never before visited the province of Ontario. “Hearing them cheering at the end was something special.  I’ve jumped a lot of big shows in Europe, but I’m never the hometown hero there and there’s nothing like a home crowd.”

Mark Rein and his wife, Tara Dow-Rein, gave Timm the ride on Atomica des Sequoias Z three years ago. They have campaigned up to the five-star level and represented Canada in nations’ cup competition.

“I’m lucky to ride a horse like Atomica,” Timm concluded. “She’s quality, she’s careful, she knows where her legs are, and we are going to keep going from here.”

Less than three tenths of a second off the leading pace, Nicole Walker of Aurora, ON, rode Panter JVH to the Canadian Show Jumping Reserve Championship title in 42.58 seconds. After winning the opening round on Friday, two-time Canadian Olympian Amy Millar of Perth, ON, was third riding Jagger HX for owners Team Eye Candy & Millar Brooke Farm.

Now a newly minted Canadian Champion, Timm will join Erynn Ballard, Mario Deslauriers, Tiffany Foster, Millar, and Walker for the Royal Horse Show’s CSI5*-W international division after pre-qualifying based on their standings in the Longines World Rider Rankings. In addition, Toronto’s own 2023 Canadian Champion, Sean Jobin, and Sam Pegg of Uxbridge, ON, have been invited to move forward as the top two athletes not already qualified.

The star-studded international division begins on Wednesday, November 12, and culminates in the prestigious Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Toronto on Saturday evening, November 15.

As always, The Royal offers numerous hospitality experiences which sell out quickly due to their popularity. A limited number of tables remain for The Royal Terrace while the Coliseum’s Sky Suites offer stables and groups their own private suites.
