In Memoriam: Harriet Cherry (1931-2021)

Cherry’s influence reached across Canada and the globe through numerous EC accreditations. In 1981, she earned her first official’s card as a Dressage Steward and later held Senior Steward status for all disciplines until 2018. Cherry was also a Recorded Judge for hunter, hack and hunt seat equitation, and jumping from 1986 until 2000.

The OMAFRA Equine Hardship Program is designated to support riding schools, trail riding facilities and therapeutic riding centres in Ontario whose financial ability to provide animal care has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Recognizing the urgent need of our equine friends, Jen Sweet of Lions Bridge Stables of Ayr, along with Jessica Blackwood, came up with a plan to help the horses. They launched a website and program called ‘Helping the Schoolies’ whose goal is to distribute a pandemic relief package for each riding facility in need. Relief will be used to ensure the basic needs, health and welfare of horses during the pandemic.
